R6950 using 2 Monitors

Thread Starter
Hi, just received my MSI R6950 GB Twin Frozr III and I have a little problem.
I can't seem to be able to have it detect any monitor I plug in the second DVI plug (the bottom one).

It's not a monitor related problem as when it is plugged on the upper DVI plug, it works.

I have 2 Acer 22" Monitor, both work on the first (upper) DVI plug and none on the second one.

I had a Sapphire 4850x2 before and it worked with both monitor.

I have uninstalled previous drivers, rebooted, used driver sweeper, rebooted, installed new drivers, and still nothing.

Am I missing something ?

Sounds like a faulty port. Just return the card for a new one.

Please do not return or RMA because of that. The lower DVI is Digital ONLY. If your monitor is not DVI Digital capable you will not get any display from digital output. If your montior doesn't have D-Sub, HDMI or DP, the alternative would MiniDP-to-DVI-D single link for 1920x1200 and dual link active adapter for res above 1920x1200.

If it wasn't DVI digital capable it wouldn't have a DVI plug on it lol, plus he has identical screens. Sounds like a bad port to me.

Let's OP take picture of the DVI ports then get an expert here to verify LOL

Edit:

Each of your cards come with 2x displayport 1.2 adapters, use one of those for the 2nd display. Or HDMI both of them of the displays.

So, my monitors are two Acer X223HQ.

They both have a vga plug like this one :
And an adapter (the one provided (DVI-A) and one of the old one I already had(DVI-A)) like this one :
I also have two DVI-I (Dual Link) Adapters sitting on my desk.

So that means that I can't plug my second monitor with the adapter like I used to do with my old 4850x2 ?

OK, both identical monitors only have native VGA. You can only use one DVI-VGA Adapter to one monitor.

You will need one of these for the second monitor:

VGA-to-MiniDP Active Adapter $24.99 (Accell B101B-002B http://www.accellcables.com/products...P/mdp_vga.html )

So if I get this right, the second DVI plug can only be used without an adapter (because it is a Single-link DVI) ?
If I want my second VGA screen to work I have to use the MiniDP plug with an adapter.

Thank you.

I am afraid so. Or one of your monitors must have native DVI.
