TV Tuner - To Steam TV on my Computer

My current tv for some reason doesnt have sound, so I figured it may be time to just steam it from my very nice computer, but I dont know a thing about TV Tuners.

Hauppauge PCTV HD Stick 801e SE 23049 USB 2.0 Interface
Is todays newegg anygood?

I have my cable that run into the room running to a cable box provided to me by cablevision. From there I have a cable that run into the TV. AMazing quality isnt needed, HDish quality would be nice and I doubt I would do much recording, but thats a nice option.

I really dont know the difference between these dual tuners with 2 plugs and single ones, so i would greatly appreciate someone explaining it to me and recommending products. It could be internal or external, I just posted the external bc i say it on shell shocker.

My price range is cheap, but not something thats is crappy and breaks. So I guess around $100 if it is needed. But one of those $50 cards would be nice if it gets the job done.

Appreciate a fast response, bc I would like to get my tv viewing back up asap

i haven't heard much about USB tuners.
i used to have an old PCI tuner that worked awesome with media center.
if you have the room, i recommend a PCI card.
then again, like i said, haven't heard much about the USB ones.

here's one around the same price and it has a remote + good reviews

I dont really know how they work. Since i do have cablevision I would like all the channels I normally have... A friend said to look into a cable tuner card that has a slot for the cable box card. since ihe said i cant run the cable form the box into the tuner?

Anyone know anything about it?

The ones i saw were $200

But i dont wanna spend over $100, $50 preferably

Unfortunately, you need to call cable company and ask them to provide you with a CableCARD. You can use a standard TV tuner (those that supports ClearQAM) but you can only watch local channels through your cable (most cable companies encrypt rest of the channels so you need CableCARD to watch them).

If you can get a CableCARD, buy this tuner ($143, cheapest I've seen),

If cable company refused to provide CableCARD, or you're fine local channels (ClearQAM/over the air), buy this tuner ($50),

Only way to watch every channels (excluding On-demand) is to use a CableCARD. CableCARD tuners are not cheap (ranging from $150 to $300).

Thanks for the advice. At that price I don't really see a benefit when I can get an old style bulky tv for that price. Especially when the house pays for cable.

Oh well appreciate the feed back

Hmmm sounds very complicated but then again I'm guessing your from the states talking about cable and things. In the UK we use areils and can get freeview but I don't know wether you can do that in the US? I'm guessing not.

Anyway long story short we have a USB tuner that came with an aerial ... That works fine in media center and you can record too (which I found fun filling my HD with) dunno if that helps sorry =\
