I just bought 2 of those today, and I was reading on them and I saw some bad reviews and some ok one. Anyone know much about those models. Its not too late to cancel I guess and re-order something else.

XFX makes good cards, i usually push for a lifetime warranty card but i hear good things about XFX cards.

alot of reviews, specifically bad ones are often just whiners. people that killed their cards from electrostatic discharge or dont know how to upgrade drivers, overclock, or setup xfire/sli. if the guy saying a card is crap because its DOA ignore it, because youll get a new one if it is, and its quite common for guys that dont use a antistatic mat/gloves/writstrap or anything to have DOA items, and immediately blame the manufacturer. and dont pay attention to guys (newegg) that have their tech level at 5. because those are the guys with stupid complaints. one of them was complaining about my motherboard saying that it dosnt allow using both pciex1 slots, and if you using the 2.0x4 slot then some things wont work, and he didnt know about it, when all of this information is clearly stated at the manufacturers site.

I tend to stay away from the ###X cards as they use XFX-based PCBs with questionable cooling solutions. The ###A cards (e.g. 695A) are fantastic since they combine the fantastic XFX warranty with the quality, reference PCB design and coolers. You really have to be on the top of your game to get those though since they're quickly phased out by the time XFX starts releasing their own PCB/cooler solutions.

It's my understanding that the XFX 6900 series cards with the reference cooler OR dual-fan XFX cooler are the ones to go for. I've only heard bad things about the XFX 6900 cards with single-fan non-reference coolers. I've no doubt they run hotter and cool less effectively than the aforementioned 2 designs.

Yeah the warranty may be nice but my 6970 can't overclock work a damn. I need to up the voltage just to get near max ccc overclock. My card is a reference look alike, same cooler but a smaller pcb iirc. Maybe I just had bad luck with my card. Either way I'm going to stick with sapphire for my next cards and give my 6970 to my little brother.

all of the 6900 series reference cards run hot. 77-80c on load, but their rated to go much higher. the only cards ive seen thatcan actually counter the 69** heat is the frozr IIIs, which will keep it in the low 60s. even the IceQs will push past 70c on load.

That certainly might be the case, I haven't had personal experience with any 6900 series cards and my friend does have the IceQ 6950 2GB. I do find it a little curious though that the 695X cards systematically get lower ratings than the 695A cards (and other 6900 cards in general), especially with regards to overclocking.

I suspect that with such best-in-class warranties, XFX would have to cut costs somewhere? I've certainly been influenced by the idea (perhaps erroneously) that their PCB designs aren't optimal relative to the competition's/reference designs.

I also suppose if you're not overclocking the GPUs it shouldn't matter that much.

I will overclock just not by that much I just wanted to upgrade to something that will give me a good increase in fps from my 5850. Those were at good price 230 after rebate and they are 2gb. With lifetime warranty I don't have to worry about it overheating and dying on me.
