Building Computer, is this worth it??

Thread Starter
Hey so I'm really not someone to build computers but I got some advice from my friend whose built one of his own, so I wanted to see if his advice is something worth spending to money for. My budget is $1,000 but any lower would ALWAYS be nice. I want a high memory computer, able to hold a high graphics card and be able to play games on, such as Halo, CoD, etc.. The parts found are on this site, found on newegg.com.. here's the website http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=12672789

So if anyone whose more experienced, please comment. THANKS!

that graphics will definitely not be good enough to play higher end games. go with the radeon 6950 or 6970. that cpu you chose isn't very good, go with the 2500k or wait until bulldozer. get 8 gb ram since its so cheap. that 750w psu is way too overkill. even a 6970 really only needs like 550 watts. also getting an ssd would be a nice addition

If you want to go AMD, wait as the next generation AMD processors are nearing its release.

Also you might want a newer, better graphics card such as 6850 or 6870

I'd say you can go down a little bit on your motherboard choice, and instead upgrade your GPU. The graphics card you have in your cart now won't really handle today's games all that well. I'd say look for a GTX 450, GTX 550 Ti, or ATi 5850 at minimum. If you go down on your motherboard it'll even out in price. You also don't need anywhere near a 750W PSU. You'll be suffice with a 500W or 600W. Everything else looks good to go!

Looks like my spare rig ha. Except I have a better gfx card in it.

But I'm pretty sure you can find better than that. If you are going to go AMD wait until next week when the FX processors come out. Are you going to OC? If you do then you will need the cooler. If you don't then I wouldn't bother with it.

My recommendations (All my prices are from Newegg):
PSU: Corsair TX650 - $65 after rebate
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1066 240-Pin $45
CPU: Wait for FX (next week maybe) $200
GPU: PowerColor 2GB Radeon HD 6950 $255 after rebate
MOBO: ASRock 880G PRO3 AM3+ $90
HDD: Yours is fine $65
CD/DVD: Yours is fine $21
Monitor: I see the price for yours as $119
?Cooler?: Hyper 212+ $26
Case: LIAN LI Lancool PC-K58 $70
Total: Right around $1k after shipping.
