What 6970 to get - Page 2

Just picked that up yesterday; I wanted a 7xxx series but with all of this crap coming out saying
"It won't be here until 2012, or, oh it might be here before 2012", I just pulled the trigger.

AMD... mad.gif

On a happier note, 3.99 overnight shipping with Amazon Prime. $313 for a 6970 w/ overnight shipping. smile.gif

Even though I ordered it at around 11PM so it's essentially 2 day.

MSI twin frzr cooling ftw. On a side note,I did own a reference sapphire 6970 and thought it performed well, temps got to about 78c at load.

Was this at 20% fan?

My old 5850 gets to 90C if I game at 20% fan... because of this it ramps up to 100% as a safety feature.

I have to keep it at 35% to stay cooler, and with my bad fan bearings it's not the quietest thing in my house. Sometimes it will squeal for a few seconds and go away, and I can't remember but I think it's a little more raspy at 20% than it used to be.

I dont like lightning cards , my reference sapphire 6950 flashed to 6970 beats the lightning in every benchmark (on lower clocks) and still remains cooler .

Msi cards are cheap , dont bother .. i have not heard a good story yet about the lightning ..

Apparently theyre coolers are so great , this n that ..

bunch of bs if you ask me .. the cooler is all aluminium and it vibrates like crazy if you set the fans high ..

reference cards have the best coolers , they are just too loud for peoples likings ..

Then which one would you recommend? You say your sapphire beats the lightning on lower clocks but isn't that the point of the lightning? To be able to overclock higher than other cards and yet remain relatively low in temps?

Personally I'm looking at the MSI HD 6970 lightning. From what I have read it seems like the best for overclockability.
