Correct Intel settings for Linux?

Thread Starter
I recently acquired a new gaming system and decided to turn this one into my main workstation (which requires Linux) but I'm having some problems. When everything is stock, Ubuntu 11.04 works fine but refuses to work when I load my OC settings. Are there any known settings that need to be enabled/disabled in order for Linux to work (more specifically, in a graphical environment)? Thanks in advance.

You will need to redo your OC for linux, as the linux kernel is less kind on errors.

what is stable in windows, is not always stable in linux.

Try to set these to defaults, they don't help much if you're not above 5GHz:
Quote:
VRM Frequency
Phase Control
CPU Current Capability
My recommendation is to try to set command mode to 2T instead of 1T. I found that most Sandy Bridge OC's are really hard to get stable at 1T - and the performance gain is minimal.

Also, how does it fail to work? Blinking caps/scroll lock LED's once booted?

I test overclocks in Linux by compiling chromium. If it finishes it's stable for everything.

I think it's better to run linpack in linux using HPL2.0 and 90%
of the memory or running CTCS.

I have done more traditional tests aswell but everything that passed chromium passed all other tests. Could be a coincidence I suppose.

I have also done real HPC cluster benchmarks using mpi with linpack
as well as with nvidia GPU's. Running linpack with 90% percent of
RAM could catch what they call MCE (machine check error) either
on CPU or RAM if you have a faulty hardware as well as bad bios
settings.
