So....whats thid difference here?

ASUS M4A78 PRO AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G

Back when I bought this mobo, it only had AM2+/AM2 listed in the title of the product. It was called:

ASUS M4A78 PRO AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Now they have it listed as having AM3 support as well. Is that a different mobo, or just a BIOS update?

The reason I'm asking is because I want to look at AM3 CPU upgrades, but only if I can get their full potential out of this mobo.

Thanks

An AM3 CPU will work in an AM2+ board, it usually just requires a bios update.

*edit*
If you buy an AMD CPU from Microcenter, you get a free mobo.

OK, so if I buy an AM3 CPU and update the BIOS, I will have "full" support of the CPU with the exception of the DDR3 RAM?

Yes. The driving force behind AM3 was DDR3 support. Other than that, very little changed.
