Regarding Siri & Androids

Thread Starter
Have any of you Android owners who claim Apple is just "catching up" with Google on the whole voice-command thing actually read what Siri can do?

http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/siri.html

What does your Android do when you say "Tell my wife that I'm running late" to it?
I'd just as soon do it myself. Honestly..I was excited for android voice commands, but I've only used it to type a text a handful of times.

When I'm on my way out from work, I like to tell my wife that I'm on my way. But that usually involves me sitting in the car, waiting for her to answer her phone, or attempting to type out a text message while trying to not walk in to anything on my way out to my car. I'm in a hurry - I want to get home! So it'd be nice to tell my phone to notify my wife on my behalf.

Also, it's annoying to "look something up" on a phone. For instance, if I want to know how many career yards LaMichael James has, I have to open up my browser, start a new page, click on the google search box, type in everything, letter by letter, and clicking X on any autocorrects that come up because it hasn't heard of the name "LaMichael" before. It'd be so much easier (and faster) to just say it, and it give me an answer right back.

Who knows, maybe I'm dreaming and I wouldn't enjoy/use it as much as I think I will, but only time will tell... but the only point I wanted to make with this thread, is that Siri is VASTLY different from any previous voice command systems built in to an OS.

Siri does sound very different and more accurate than other voice command systems in a OS. When i attempt to use the voice commands on my android phone to type a text the message comes out completely different to what i said!

By the way on my phone i'm able to hold down the search buttom to activate the voice command feature. Just a faster way to look things up.

Siri looks promising. I've never had the need to actually use Voice-command though. It's honestly a gimmick to me, that I wont use.

Siri seems like a very cool feature, but how many people do you think will actually use it on a daily basis? It seems to me like one of those "cool apps" that you try for a few days and show to all your friends and family, and then never use again.

If it works the way they say it will, I will definitely use it every day.

I don't care if people downplay Siri. I've never owned an Apple device but Siri looks outstanding, and is really making me want to get a 4S.
