I have a NVIDIA gtx460 Graphics card in my computer that i built not even a year ago. I have noticed that when i am playing a video game, (i.e. world of warcraft) my character starts to get alittle jumpy once in awhile. Another issue is before when I would hit alt +esc to get out of the game it would go right to the desktop screen, now however it goes black for a few seconds then comes back. Sometimes i have even turned my monitor off then back on and it came back. I have it connected HDMI to the monitor, now does this mean that its my graphics card going bad, or could it be the screen and/or the HDMI cable. I am not really sure whats going on in this situation. Thank you for all the help! If it is the graphics card, is it difficult to get NVIDIA to send me a replacement card? Any tips on the replacement would be of great help as well thanks!

Wall of TEXT!

Anyway, It could be just a graphics driver issue. I know that on my 460s when I load up WoW I do get a black screen and the monitor displays HDMI and then it comes back. Some other games do it too.

What it is...The graphics card must reset its connection and ends the signal when bringing up this new window. It could possibly be due to resolution or refresh differences between your game and desktop settings.

Heck the game could have changed and is causing that to happen too.

I would not worry about it.

For the jittery character. I would first update or downgrade your graphics drivers, Heck even try the new beta Drivers 280.36 from nVidia.

Heck the game could have changed and is causing that to happen too.

Also take a deep breath and chillax.

If you feel that tweaking these settings and changing out the driver does not satisfy your need to not get a black screen. I guess you could RMA the 460. I have no exp with what ever manufacture you purchased from. I use EVGA and I think they would RMA me a new card if I said I get black outs when alt+tabbing when I did not get them before.

Note: I am well aware that I repeated myself.

"Heck the game could have changed and is causing that to happen too."

Was a clear and concise reply to the statement above it.

Hey thanks for the help. The reason I am mad about it is that i have already replaced this graphics card once within the time frame of me being able to get it replaced from best buy because it wasn't even passed their return policy yet. I will give NVIDIA a call and see if I could RMA it. I have the latest update installed for the card. Thanks again though for your help and input!

Sure is a much easier read when that is used some, lol.

Anyway. On the tabbing out, when did it start doing so? After you updated the driver or before? Have you checked to make sure that your cards temps are good?

Does it do any of this while doing anything else, or is WoW the only program in which this takes place?

No offense, but it sounds like you are looking to RMA the card, when it is likely a less time consuming fix. Most companies will troubleshoot this more before giving out an RMA number, FYI...
