Water cooling below expectation

Thread Starter
I posted a thread on here some time back outlaying my water cooled build (the one in my sig). I've been running it now for some months and it has fallen far short of expectation.

Issues
- Temps above what they should be (Running 35 - 40 degrees idle).
- Flow rate remains too low at 180ltrs / hr
- Benchmarking on heaven and 3dMark is returning underperforming results.

All in all I have almost 4k of kit performing like a 1.5k system.

I just like a bit of advice if possible on my thoughts to improve:

Single vs Dual Loop
I originally was going for a dual loop but allowed myself to be convinced that single loop was best. I'm now convinced this was a major mistake and that the system requires two separate loops for the SLI GPU's and CPU.

Case
I use a RP452X2 bay res with roof mounted triple rad and a base mounted quad rad. Due to the standard ATX tray it is impossible for me to orientate the roof rads inlet / outlets to the rear of the case.
As they must sit at the front it becomes impossible for me to run a dual loop into it because of positioning (believe me I did try with various fittings).

Would I be better served swapping to an M8 case and dropping the TJ07? (Bearing in mind it has been modded for the roof triple mount).

Mainboard pcie lanes
Again atm I am mounting the GPU's in slot 1 and 2 due to positioning but I'm uncertain that this is actually even properly utilising the sli of the cards as I am using one NF200 slot and the other I forget which type of slot.
Mainboard is a Maximus IV P67.
Thinking I should switch to slot 1 and 3 and buy a longer D Plug link.

Restrictions
I also use an aquacomputer high flow meter and VL4N QDC. I really need to know the flow rate but also think these are adding too much restriction to my loop especially given the two GPU's are very high restriction Hydrocopper 2's.

GPU's
As before I think I am suffering very heavy restriction in these GPU's due to the swiftech integrated blocks. Atm I run in what I think you call parallel.
That is I have the inlet on the top card on the left then a bitspower d plug going from the top right to bottom right. And then I have the outlet on the bottom left.

This covers most of the major problems and tbh the machine has already cost too much.
I'm also plagued with the system freezing alot and having to reboot which I think may be connected to the OCZ vertex 3 after ruling out the keyboard and RAM.
I can't flash it as I use it for the boot drive.

So any advice on where I can go from here?

EDIT: Forgot to mention I am also trying to maintain a certain aesthetic of black and red due to the mainboard. Thus my tubing is all opaque.

Other than the lockups and lower flow than you'd like, I'm not seeing what the problem is. What do your temperatures look like? What pump are you using?

Temps post about 35 - 40 idle and 50 - 60 under load. I can't post the actual screens atm as I'm in another country to where my computer is.
Pumps are 2 x Koolance PMP450S plugged into the RP452X2 res. All bitspower compressions using 90degree on the rads and the rest mainly straight.

Is your 2600k stock or are you overclocking? What about your 580s? Those temps are fine for an overclocked system, but may be a bit high if it's stock. Do you know what your ambient temperatures are? That will affect the water temperature greatly, thereby affecting your core temps.

Double D5 pumps is more than enough to power that loop. Are these the Vario model where you can change the pump speed? If they are, check what setting they're on and increase one notch if necessary.

Hydrocoppers(made by swiftech) blocks are really restrictive compared to other graphic card manufactures. I just run my cards in series. You might want to try that. but your not in your country.

Also I think you should look on your your mb is set up before you even water cool. Know everything about it. I mean Your board doesn't even have a nf200 chip, I just looked that up. Come on now.

You're lockups is likely happening because of your OCZ drive.

Switching cases is not going to help performance or temps.

You have plenty of rad with your 360 and 480, no need to go dual loops. I have run a 2600K heavily overclocked with two 6950s at stock with a 360 and it idled lower than yours. What do your GPUs idle at and hit at load?

Look in your manual to see which slots operate at which speeds when populated. My WS revolution uses slot 1 and 3 with 2 cards.
AFAIK 90s are not good to use. I am fairly sure my system outperforms this. Currently I am only running my 2600k on my 360 rad but I was running SLI 275s, with load temps ~50C or so. Idle is ~32C load is ~66 but i am fairly sure I still have air in it and the difference across cores makes me think I need to remount the block.

I only have a single D5, running at 17v in an XSPC bay res. Don't know whats going on for you. Possibly the high restriction GPU blocks, but other than that, unless one pumps is unplugged or something then it ought to be working fine.

You can improve the flow by going serial on the gpus but you allready have good flow, I dont see a problem there.

90º fitting restrict flow by a great margin.

Did you open the cpu block and mounted it corretly?, the block might be clogged.

What are the room temps?

A pic would help a lot.

Completely stock setup with no overclocking on anything.
Ambient hovers about 30degrees approx.

As for pump speed, booth are currently set to the maximum speed settings. There is something fundamentally flawed with the system build and I'm thinking it is a combination of those elements I listed.

My preferred solution atm is to switch to a caselabs M8 with dual loop. Swapping the RX480 for a GTX360 to cool the GPU's and then leave the GTS360 for the CPU.
From looking at the case layout this seems to be capable of solving my plumbing issues but it involves spending more.

I'm reluctant to drop the opaque tubing for transparent as I don't want to ruin the aesthetic.

At the end of the day this machine should be lightning fast with high benchmarks and what I'm getting is sub par performance, higher than should be temps and system freezing on a very regular basis.
Not quite what you'd expect after dropping 4k on kit.

Full Loop runs:

RP452X2 Res serial > PMP450S x 2 > VL4N QDC> EK Supreme HF Full Nickel > Roof GTS360 Rad > Hydrocopper 2 GPU1 > Bitspower D Plug > Hydrocopper 2 GPU2 > Base XSPC RX480 > Aquacomputer High Flow Meter > RP452X2 Res\\

4 x 90 degree bitspower compression
2 x 45 degree bitspower compression
6 x Straight bitspower compression

Flow monitored by Aquacomputer Aquaero 5 XT (calibrated to the flow meter).
Coolant is Mayhem H20 with Mayhem biocide and tubing is primochill all fittings 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD.

EDIT: Cheers guys, you will have to excuse me if I get a few bits wrong as I'm going alot from memory. I'm hoping to take advantage of the lower prices in the US to get anything I need before heading back to the UK.
I confess I did make a few schoolboy errors with the mainboard but did fix those before leaving the UK one of which is the slot problem and again I'm going off memory.

Likely update the thread with more accurate info when I get back but as I say would really like to take advantage of the great prices in the US (read lack of VAT!).

Very grateful for the advance nonetheless
