Overclocking, Watercooling, and VRMs?

Thread Starter
I'm hoping xd_1771 will weigh in here. I recently installed a XSPC Rasa RS360 kit to OC my 955 in an Asrock 970 Extreme4. Temps are ridiculously low, I'm seeing 31c load at stock freq and 38c at 4.1ghz. I'm having to crank voltage to get anywhere though, 1.525v to get to 4.1 when I can run Prime95 all day at 1.4v at 3.8ghz(37c load by the way). My main concern is how hot the heatsink over the VRMs is getting; even at 1.4v it is very very warm to the touch. Is spot cooling a necessity with a waterblock? I have a 120mm exhaust fan going full blast right next to the VRMs that seems to make no difference at all.
the weak 955.

VRMs always run hot if you can touch it with getting burned it should be fine as for water cooling it A) there is no real need B) unless they are on separate loops the VRM would likely make the CPU hotter. Though 1.525 is above the max Vcore for the x4s so you may not want to run that. usually you can get the same clock at a lower Vcore if you increase the Ref. Clock and not just cranking the multi. mine is stable at 4.00GHz with a Vcore of 1.476v (235.7x17)
