Yes, pretty much the people will be connecting to your IP, either directly or through a domain. The IP only takes them to your router (or technically modem which then goes to the router). At that point, you have to tell your router what to do with the request of [your IP]ort. So you would set up a port forward saying "Anything coming to this IP and on port 21, please forward to [insert your computer's local IP] and on port 21.

Right, I am lost! I have forwarded some ports before but my knowledge is pretty limited. I understand the process that you have just described but not sure how to put into action. If I am forwarding it onto my computers IP, then surely I need a static IP as well.

A lot of the forwarding I have done have been for games and this requires an input of a port and not an IP? I have a BT home hub and under the forwarding section, there is no option for IP addresses.

EDIT:that last bit was stupid. By forwarding it onto my computer name, it automatically forwards to an IP address. DUH

did not read thru all the pages but have you checked out portable Filezilla.

other thing is Google.docs makes possible the creation and sharing of files. in my school we use google to collaborate (work on a document) in real time while chat room is running.

I have got this working for the other users now which is progress. They can open files and view the same folder that I am sharing.

However they cannot amend the file titles should they wish, something they need to be able to do. I have the checkbox checked for append for each user but it comes up with a 550 permission denied error.
