OSX Mouse Acceleration

Thread Starter
I'm trying my best to fix this, but I'm on a machine with no root privileges. The best I've been able to come up with is using the mouse acceleration preferences pane and setting acceleration to -1, but that leaves the sensitivity far too low.

The problem is that under normal settings the default acceleration curve in Snow Leopard can only be described as utterly retarded. The acceleration varies wildly depending on your physical mouse velocity, so moving the mouse 2 inches will either move the point 10 pixels or 1000 pixels, and I'm not even exaggerating those numbers.

Basically what that means is you'll move your mouse 2" to cross the screen to click on a button, and then instead of moving it a few millimeters to click on the button, you actually need to move it another 2" just to travel the 10-15 pixels to the button.

Judging by the responses on support sites to similar grievances I get the impression that people actually like this. Are these just a few isolated Apple zealots or do normal users actually like this?

I honestly don't believe it is possible to disable it. I agree that it is a silly thing to leave out but as far as I know it can't be disabled from the stock OS options. Perhaps there is a patch or utility that would do it...

x2 on USB Overdrive. If not, look into another mouse.
You can also disable acceleration in terminal...

Nope. Can't install any apps since I don't have root privileges.

This one works though, but then the sensitivity is low. It takes about 10" to traverse the screen, but thats still better than using acceleration.

I have something that works, not sure if it needs root level, I forget. I'll post back later when I get access to it.

Why isn't root level access an option? You can use an install disc...

If you need admin, this could help...

That might work. It's what I used in Leopard, and I guess is working in SL, not that I have any ability to detect mouse acceleration whatsoever > >.
