Display turns off after extended period of SMP folding

Thread Starter
Hi,

As stated in the title, my monitor's display turns off after I fold for a long time( between 5 and 10 hours), and won't turn back on.

I don't know exactly when it happens, and I don't know exactly what is happening... my display turns off after about 20 minutes by default, but it wakes up as soon as I move my mouse.

However, I've noticed that when I start folding before work (~8 AM), by the time I come home, my display is off and won't turn back on. My PC appears to still be running (all of the fans are on, power button is lit up, etc), but the monitor won't turn on even if I press every button on the keyboard and move my mouse around for a while.

I figured it was instability, so I raised my vCore by about .2 and folded overnight last night. I started at about midnight, and when I left for work this morning at 8:00, everything was still working properly. I figured I had fixed it so I ran it through the day, but, lo and behold, I got home this evening to find that the display was off and wouldn't come back on.

Is this just instability in my system, or what? Is my monitor doing something wonky?

Thanks in advance,

5

My guess is instability, probably RAM, getting your system to freeze instead of throwing you a sweet old BSOD. Did you OC your RAM?

are you using a single monitor or multiple monitors? I have the same issue from time to time on one of my three monitors. I have to go into OS and disable that monitor then re enable it, then it works again. Doesn't happen on a regular basis, maybe once or twice a week at random.

I pumped a little more voltage into it because it was causing problems, but it's actually undervolted from the factory rating. It's 1600 MHz Vengeance running at 1333.

Only one monitor, so I can't disable and re-enable it.

I'm having the same issue in one of the PCs. It freezes randomly, and only pressing the reset button works. Problem is ram here

Try setting everything to stock one of these days. This way you'll know if it is OC related or HW related.

A nifty trick for figuring out when your system is crashing is to setup an online dropbox for HFM. If you have HFM update every 5 minutes and check periodically, you will be able to see when the crash occurred (within 5 minutes). I used to do this when checking for system stability with my 4.2ghz OC.
