Ducted Folding Heater

Thread Starter
Hey all,

Was just mulling over an idea in my head, as I'm not an air-conditioning installer I would have the first inkling as how to pull this off, but...

Would it be possible to circulate air from your computer/folding room, throughout your entire house?
We all know folding produces a vast amount of heat, and this way, there is alot more air volume to heat up, which should result in lower ambients?
You could also set it up to exhaust outside in the hotter months that way you aren't adding to ambients as well...

All in all I'm just spit-balling here, but let me know what you think!

Cheers Ishi

If you can get your case, or build a new one, completely isolated so you only have an intake and one out, i guess it is possible. You would need 2 big fans to do this though i believe, just like a kitchen exhaust

Edit:
Yeah, heating a house is probably too much

I don't think a PC will make enough heat to raise the temperature in a home, I doubt the heat would travel very far inside the ducting before it cooled down.
I do think routing it outside is possible given enough ingenuity.

I don't mean to isolate the case, I just meant to suck the air out of the computing room and circulate it through the house.

My bedroom heats up quite a bit when I have 2x GPU's and a CPU putting out 70c each

Dumb me

I think there are a few window applicated fans to serve as exhaust. Making it circulating through the house would be a somwhat big investment i believe. You would be better off installin air conditioners.

Cut a hole in your door and stick a Honeywell turbo floor fan in there.

Or, if you don't want to destroy your door, get some plexiglass about the same size as the door frame, put a row of 120mm fans along the top (either cut holes or just leave space when you size the plexi). Then get a molex AC power adapter, plug 'em in and and fire it up. That'll draw out the heat near the ceiling of your computer room and into the rest of the house, at least.

It's similar to what I did to separate 2 cats who hated each other, except that one didn't have fans of course.

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...41&R=202562741 you looking for something like that withough the insulation i do hvac in nyc simple enough to use u can even use duct tape to make it stick out the window or if u have central air u can put it to one of the returns in the room

Indeed, a ducted air conditioner is expensive, but my thinking is that this heat is being made as a byproduct of folding, surely it could be useful.

I've also considered heating a spa by installing RAD's that come into contact with the SPA water!

Just put a box fan at the entrance of the door to the room that holds this computer and point the fan towards the rest of the house. If the room is near the A/C inlet for the house, just run the blower with the door to the computer room open.

While folding has the capacity to warm a room. I doubt that you'd be able to warm a house.
