The 6950 came with one "mini port to display port" but I don't have that cable to connect to my monitor, is display port required for triple display?
You cannot do 2xDVIs and 1xHDMI because you must use one miniDP output.
And as the ''mini DP to HDMI'' adapter does not work, then that adapter is likely to be a passive one. When such an adapter is used, an active
one must be used. Furthermor, if the resolution is 2560x1600, an active dual link
adapter must be used. However, if the resolution is 1920x1200/1080, then a single link
active one can be used.
If you use the ''mini DP to DP'' adapter, then you can simply use a DP-to-DP cable, connecting to a monitor with DP input.

Perhaps the cheapest solution is with these connections:-
1x DVI as you currently have
1x HDMI as you currently have
1x mini DP to DVI-D (active single link) - get this adapter
