460 SLI with sig rig?

Thread Starter
Will my OCZ 600w psu be able to handle 2 GTX 460's?

I only run the raid config, the other hdd is unplugged.

Also I'm going to be upgrading to a Thuban, depending on how BD goes.

Here's the specs:

too be honest? No... Get a good 650w -750w power supply. 650w will get you some decent overclocks but 750w will give you all the room in the world.

And no, you dont need a 750w for that. 750 for 480's and still have room to overclock

I'm sorry but did you people actually look at the PSU 12v rails?????

It has 2 12v rails which can supply 25amps each... 2 460's at max load with no overclocking get around 433w with a Thuban he's looking at another 150w tdp. So at max load playing say BF3 he will go over the max 12v load...

You'll be cutting it close at stock with a 700W PSU, but still fine. Personally, I'd go for 1000W:
With Corsair AX1200 PSU tests with wattage measured from the wall with a Kill-A-Watt meter. Also, the total while running Prime 95 and FurMark with 16x MSAA at 1920 x 1200 is 925W at MAX overclock.

Then, with the i7 950 at 4.34GHz from idle to max load (393W system total):
171W difference from idle to load

Stock GTX 460 1GB SLI (theoretical 556W system total):
334W difference from idle to load

Overclocked GTX 460 1GB SLI at 960MHz Core Clock with 1212mV's Core Voltage (theoretical 768W system total):
546W difference from idle to load

Actual wall readings, 727W with overclocked CPU and stock GPUx2 load.
Actual wall readings, 925W with overclocked CPU and max overclock GPUx2 load.

Running Furmark and Prime95 is a terrible way to get how much wattage you need... They run everything at 100%. Something a game will NEVER EVER do. Even so Assuming 90% efficiency you're looking at 832.5w from the psu. To be honest if you just game and don't plan on trying to kill everything in you're computer by doing that a good 750w will be more then enough...

It's not terrible. As long as your PSU can handle the load, it's a non-issue. It's no different than running a CPU stress test by itself, and then running a GPU stress test by itself. The reason to test it this way is to know the max amount of wattage you will ever exert on your system at one time. People exert similar loads while folding. I don't expect anyone else to do it, but I know what I'm doing, and the information is useful. If you don't think so, that's your prerogative.
