Please help me OC my AMD Phenom II X4 840

Thread Starter
So I've just finished building my first rig!

Anyways, so now that I've finished it, I'm looking to OC my processor.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2033374
^This is my current Set-up with my CPU clocked at about 3.5GHz vs 3.2GHz stock. I was wondering if there's anything I can do to squeeze some more juice out of it. I've tried going past my current OC, but end up with BSODs. I'm just getting into OC'ing, so I don't know everything there is to know. Any advice would be appreciated!

If i were you i wouldn't go crazy OCeing on that board. you might end up frying the board if you do.

Sorry, I don't understand that list. Would you have any recommendations for another MB that's good for OC'ing?

That board has a poor Power phase design, and MSI boards are know for having issues when OCeing high TDP CPUs, although that is a 95W TPD chip IIRC. I can't give you all the details that you need to know on this VRM thing, but if you look in the thread i linked you'll find a lot of info on this. You can ask for advice there, and the people who made that extense list will help you in any question you have with your board and a new one.
Reccomending a new board would depend on your budget too

i just don't want to go on and risk to misinform you in any aspect mate...

So is my current OC ok? Or should I throttle it?

i don't think that it is a OC that high that would kill the board right now, but i wouldn't reccomend going too much over it. maybe a 225-230 FSB and no more than 1.45V. MSI boards aren't very reliable

Don't forget the whole "may burn down your rig" part. LOL

Here is a good starters to advanced guide to overclocking the AM2/+/3 platform.

Would not overclock on the motherboard at all. Very high VRM fail rate.
