Headphone Recommendation

Thread Starter
Looking to get a nice set of headphones. I listen to mostly grungy, grindy, speed metal and definitely need bass. I'd also like to use these for gaming as well. I honestly don't know if I want open or closed backs. While it would be nice to hear if the baby is crying I wouldn't want everyone around me to hear what I'm listening to.

I was looking at the Sennheiser 555's or 595's but I'm totally open to suggestions. I'd like to keep things under $180, preferably under $150.

And while I'm here is my current sound card in my sig good enough or should I look at upgrading?

You could use a sound card upgrade, but it's okay enough not to.

For 200 you can cop Grado SR 225's. For used you can get them cheaper. Definitely a good pair of headphones for the genre you like and the offer some good bass.

grado sr 225's are awesome. for 150$ tho i would recommend shure 750dj's, cant beat the bass on these. If you like bass don't bother with sennheiser 555's since its not what they are made for.

as for your sound card - it might have a bit of trouble running the grado or shure cans, would definitely benefit from an amp but not mandatory. As a general ratio you wanna spend around 10x more on your earphones then you do on your dac so 150$ earphones are just about appropriate.
