Balanced Intel Build

Thread Starter
Coming into some cash and looking to build my first i7 rig.

So this is what I'm thinking.

i7 950
12gb (6x2gb) gskill 1600 cas7
EVGA GTX560ti Superclocked SLI
EVGA x58 Classifyed
OCZ Vertex 3 120gb

Building a nice computer doesn't just take some expensive components, the components must balance each other out. Looking for an opinion if this build will be balanced. Open to suggestions. +rep for helpful info.

Thanks,
Shags

Why not go for a sandy bridge build?
Consider a crutial M4, seems like that is the choice of SSDs for speed and reliability right now.

What is the purpose of this build? VM\\video editing\\gaming?

Your rig was great last year for most users. Thing is, Sandy bridge is way better bang from the buck when comparing performance in most daily tasks with any PC prior to date. I applaud you for choosing one SSD + 12GB ram. And a 560 is a good mid-high range card, with CUDA+3D vision+Physx support and low power consumption compared to others like 580. Thats great, but in my opinion, if you are going to spend +200 bucks on processor and +170 on a motherboard, why not buying a i5 2500k (seen them in the forum @ $180-190 bucks) and a Asus p67 pro, or even WS Revolution.

Trust me, my i7 2600k installed Windows 7 Ultimate in 9minutes in my 2TB 5900RPM HDD. Sandy bridge is damn fast, you won't regret it, even if you go with an i3 2100 (I just ordered an SSD to use the real speed of the processor).

I'm fully in agreement with you Shags on the school of thought when it comes to balance; my immediate question though is why the 950 processor?

An i7-2600k, Asus P8Z68-V, and 560 Ti would make for a better selection...

Exactly why I asked oc.net, I do not have much knowledge on i7s currently. I plan on using this rig for every day use, gaming, folding, and music. I picked the i7 over i5 for future proof reasons and the 950 because I am slightly familiar with it. I know nothing of sandy bridge so that is something I will be looking into.

Budget is 2k-2.5k. going to use the same 1000watt psu I am using currently.

I picked out the corsair h100, didn't include that in the post because I was focusing on the main components.
