the 2600k has 32nm, isn't the 45nm better or does it matter?
alright (Folding + gaming rig)
i7-2600k - $300
8GB \\ 16GB 1.5v 1600 RAM - $49 \\ $99 (G.Skill snipers)
GTX 570 single card or SLI 460's? Others can give much better suggestions.
GTX460's on SLI is fine for your PSU
Crutial M4 128GB SSD
cooling: Noctua NH-D14 or Corsair H100

8GB ram is enough for most applications. If you run several Virtual machines, maybe you will push 8GB. 16GB is tops. it's not too expensive though.

That cooling will allow you to push 4.8GHz or higher on an i7-2600k.

I will let someone else suggest a motherboard.

Well, with that budget, you could easily get a rig like mine.

Check the features of the WS Revolution. You can grab it for $200
i7 2600k is great overclocker. Can reach 5.0 on Air. Benchmarks shows how great in performance is over previous i7 generation like 950 or even 980
WS revolution support 32GBs of RAM, and sticks of 4gb in sets of 2 are cheap in amazon ($62, red g.skills 1600 4gbx2), so you could easily use 16GB

With that PSU, is definately worth setting an sli and going with double 560 Ti or even one 580 and one dedicated 240-250 for physx and extra cuda cores

SSD I don't know much. As I said, I just bought one in the forum.
Remember aftermarket cooler, or if you are for a show off, a bit of watercooling?

I'm sure with that amount of budget you could also get one good 24inch monitor or even 30, depending if you decide to go sli, or avoid watercooling etc. Check dell monitors, specially the ultrasharp series or any other IPS monitor. You can buy them new or grab them cheap 2nd handed /refurb at ebay for $150-$220 each. You won't regret the difference in picture quality when compared with a VA panel .

I picked out the vertex because it has the sanforce chip. I am a fan of this because of how it manages the drive. The performance does not degrade over time like most SSDs

32nm = less material to make each chip
also the sandy bridge can overclock like a champ, and take higher temps. runs more efficiently.
32nm > 45nm

That kind of build budget really changes the game...

i7-2600K
Asus P8Z68-V Pro
Corsair Vengeance 16GB
EVGA GeForce GTX 570 in SLI

The Corsair Vengeance comes with a cas lat of 8 at the lowest. I was shooting for 6 or 7.

Here's my suggestions:
i7-2600k
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Gigabyte GV-N560OC-1GI 560 Ti or skimp SSD or 2600K to 2500k and get another one for sli.
Asus P8Z68-V Pro
Crucial M4 128GB or 64GB model

As other user noted. It looks nice and it will do the job

sandforce has been crap lately. Causing random BSOD's and then blaming the consumer for not installing it properly or something like that. OCZ does that too so stay away.
