Missing out on what? I know what they aren't missing out on, space and money.

When you take into account the cost of most OCN members PC's, the cost of a SSD is minute. Then remember your not limited to the space on said SSD ( see sig , SSD + raid + some extra ) is a prime example.

Surely anyone that bought an ssd would either not care about losing the extra storage. And money? It's the best bang for you buck way to speed up your computer. Saves power too.

But when they are reliable they can last longer than a HDD if treated correctly.)
There must have been a reason why Intel invested in SSD's. They are a CPU company. Intel must have foreseen hard drives becoming a CPU bottleneck. Actually hard drives are already CPU bottlenecks given a workload that involves many random reads and writes. The upside of SSD is performance like you said.

If you have the extra money, sure get an SSD. If you are on a budget, get the hard drive.

Besides the occasional problem w/ firmware (which happens w/ HDDs too). There is nothing wrong w/ SSD reliability. My X25-M G1 is close to being three years old now and it is still alive and kicking. I've had hard drives die in a much shorter time.

SSDs do have a higher failure rate than HDDs, though. Like he said, if you don't get a troublesome drive, they very likely can last as long/longer than a HDD.

Granted, good brand names shouldn't give you a problem, like any product.

Trim doesn't really matter. If you're in a situation that it doesn't work like raid, just image the drives, boot from a cd or secondary OS, run clean all from a command promote and then restore the image. Once every couple or few months is enough and it only takes probably an hour until you're back up running with a garbage free install

Does anyone know if this is bad for my sad? I use my computer almost everyday but when I'm not on it I shut it down and power it off. Will that effect the ssd?

Nah, your probably helping it in the long run. SSDs have limited write cycles, but its such a high number it would take a few decades to run it out anyway. Nothing to worry about.
