Dell U2312HM review by tftcentral

Thread Starter
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm

I was waiting for this review since this model was announced. I was hoping for low input lag and I was blown away.

According review the average input lag for this screen is 0.6 ms eek.gif

I wanted to buy XL2410T but after this review I am going for 2312HM.

Cant wait to see how BF3 will look at that screen smile.gif

Kind of sad that even with LEDs, the black level and contrast are worse than the previous model

That monitor is on updated recommendation list of FlatpanelsDK, also known as FlatpanelsHD, as gaming monitor, graphics monitor and office monitor!

It's the only on that list that has been recommended in these three categories.

Despite I don't speak English very well, I fell TFT Central review had been very similar to Danish site review. So we can say the U2312HM is a great monitor and an excellent choice in terms of cost and IPS panel monitor. Or am I wrong?

LED =/= good contrast

LED = more brightness on average.

The LED HDTVs that offer superior contrast are usually full array LED backlit and have local dimming to create a superior "dynamic" contrast ratio. One downside to this though is blooming.

I can vouch for the U2412 being more than fast enough for twitch style FPS games because from prior testing I know that I am sensitive to input lag to an extent. I ran a CRT and then a 2233rz 120hz until I went IPS.

If this display has less input lag and similar panel quality to the U2412 panels, then were in for a nice treat. This could be the "go to" eyefinity/surround panel for the next year or two.

Anyone got this monitor yet? Very interested in it for gaming because of it's input lag (specifically on Xbox).

Not sure though because of it's 8ms Response time, i recognise the difference but don't understand whether or not the 8ms will effect me at all.
I doubt it has 0.6 ms input lag, but it could have 0.6 ms + response time, just like the U2412M, which is great either way. CRTs always have faster phosphors than LCD screens and will always show lag + response time advantages.

Granted, still a good result, and if it's as responsive as U2412M, or more so from the reviews, also great. It also might have slightly more balanced over drive.

My dislike of this screen is its inability to go as dark as the U2412M. The U2412M can go down to almost a THIRD of white level (45-50 cdm/2) at 0 brightness and less than a third of black level (0.04 - 0.06 cdm/2) at 0 brightness. LEDs have the advantage of a wide brightness regulation level, and it's not showing here. The U2311H could go darker, strangely enough.

Still a great all-round screen, but if the brightness was lower at the bottom level, it'd would be damn near perfect for a 23" 16:9 screen.

0.6ms is useless if there are ghosting in games.
