XBL Account Hacked...

Thread Starter
... so im sitting at my desk (@work) and i get 4 emails, one after another at 7am on the dot. XBL Confirmation of purchased points. 1600 x 4 to be exact plus the points that i had originally had (1700) gone. Called MS up and now i cant use my account up to 6 weeks until they solve this mystery. sucks but oh well. i cancelled/changed my cards and changed all my passwords.

SO how is this possible?

The only I've really ever seen it happen is if someone you know had access and took it upon themselves to mess with it...or maybe they just knew you name and guessed your password. Someone actually being hacked by complicated nefarious means doesn't seem to happen often.

no one has access to my account or even knows my password. my password is pretty difficult to just guess at. lower/upper case + numbers and symbols randomly mixed. definitely hacked because purchases literally happened simultaneously at the same time. normally there is a buffer between the time you can make purchases.

I'm guessing there's alot of way's this is possible...

Since your at work, are you sure no one has physical access to your xbox right now? Are you using a wireless connection for your xbox (is it secure)? Do you use the same password at other sites? Is your password connected to your xbl username in anyway?
Do you use your xbl username for other gaming services?

I'd run virus/malware scans on any device that might associate with that account, home PC's ect.

Funny that you posted this thread. I found out today that my account got hacked as well. Found out that over a month ago someone managed to hack into my account and made two charges for points. Microsoft automatically voided their purchases and refunded my card and put my account on a hold. Went to log on today (first time in over a month) and wasn't able to log in and tried to reset password...my security question was in spanish...lol. Contacted Microsoft to confirm and got the process underway. Account is on suspension for a month as well as of today. Only thing I am upset about is the fact that I never got any notification email from microsoft saying they found illegal activity and or put my account on hold.

It's possible the account is linked to another email you don't check often, they generally send emails for anything and everything.

Some accounts are stolen using social engineering on the xbox live customer support. That's how mine was stolen last year.
