How long will my Q6600 last? - Page 12

Honestly, I wouldn't even have considered upgrading if I didn't run into any issue because it plays every other game I have tried to date 1680x1050 maxed settings. If I get a 6950 though, I'm sure it'll be bottlenecked with Q6600 sitting at 2.4, I just really don't know how much it will be bottlenecked though.

Real temp says my VID is VID 1.1625, No idea what that means, never heard it referenced before.
You would have to disable the stepping options in your BIOS to allow the chip to run at the 2.4 GHz stock speed and then get the VID. VID is the voltage it takes for the chip to run stable at it's stock speed.

Here's a cheap mobo ASUS x48 rampage formula $51 and you can use the code in this thread for an extra $10 off. The code is GEEKBERT. Get the added 1-year extended warranty from geeks also, $11 for another year warranty for that board.

Also, it's been shown that BF3 is very very gpu dependent, a decent overclock on that 6600 will help out a lot. Put a more powerful gpu alongside and it would help push the oc'ed 6600 over the top.

I was also considering to upgrade from my q9400 or an i5/i7 or FX but the BF beta ran pretty decent at max settings. it loaded my cpu to 100% and my gpu went between 75 and 100. It comes down to what you expect your rig to do. IF you want all maxed out than upgrade. If you are happy with a little bit lower settings than save yourself some money and stick to the q6600

I bought my Q6600 for like £140 which is why I am reluctant to let it go, it does what I need it to do too bad it's a rubbish overclocker.

I am even thinking of upgrading my motherboard to a ddr3 one so I can use the Q6600 with more than 2GB ram seeing as ddr3 is crazy cheap and the motherboard is cheap too.

The only problem am having is how can I overclock my cpu to 3GHz whilst keeping ram at 1333mhz, my current settings is 3ghz / 830mhz ram. The FBS/DRAM Ratios on my board is rubbish and I suspect the one I want to buy is the same.

im in the same situation i keep on thinking is it worth upgrading my q9550 to an ivybridge i5 with a z77 chipset motherboard and i now they wont be out untile about april but is it really worth me upgrading the chip or would i be better off sticking an ssd into my rig and waiting for the nvidea 600 gpu too come out also should i really start thinking about building a rig for windows 8 that if memory serves me right was suposed to be a 128bit operating system as well as 64 bit will the ivybridge be 128 bit capable?
