Creating "virtual disk" in ram - Page 2

I play a lot of MMOs and I have played Oblivion.

but my Sig rig doesn't have load screens.

It is not asinine to tell someone to learn some patience.

If you had Load screens in mind when you built your rig you would have invested in a SSD. -_-

yes you can, please don`t listen to people who never used a ramdisk

i have been doing this for a long time (for old games)

you need gavote ramdisk or this
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ramdisk/
or many other apps to create the ramdisk in memory

yes, each time you turn off your pc, the data will die, you need to copy again those 4gb of oblivion, but since you are copying to ram the speed will be fast

about ramdisk more than 4gb, i don´t know really, but i just want to tell you, yes you can, and yes it is awesome, zero loading screens, no lag, no stutter

i do this for fraps recording, video capture, and playing old games, if i had a lot of ram i would play new games on it

@NitroNarcosis your right its not asinine to tell someone to "learn patience". It’s also not asinine to want to put together the best rig I can. Let’s be honest a "I’d just deal with it" comment (I know it wasn't you who said that) added nothing to helping answer my question. Your suggestion of SSD was already in practice (ordered one yesterday will prolly get here Tuesday or wed). But really what’s so wrong with wanting to be immersed in the game I’m playing and aspiring for zero load times?

No no problem, I fully understand. The need for immersion.

Sorry for the comment.

A RAMDisk may not achieve zero load time because disk access is not always the only limitation.

A SSD should provide enough performance where disk access is no longer a bottleneck in most games.
Once again...

So duckie, you basically put down the conclusion I had in my head- but forgot to actually write- when I was positng earlier

But yea, that's what I was trying to get across. Gaming on a RAM disk as opposed to an SSD may not actually reduce load times.
