alright i guess im red team now lol. my saphire 6950 arrives tomorow and i need help with this new settup now that i moved my comp downstairs. i have a small monitor and a huge hdtv next to it. id like to settup one for like facebook and chats and then the tv for big gaming like bf3, crysis ect. would be cool to show off the crysis mods and stuffo n this kind of display ^_^. is there a way to chose when one display goes on? like just to use my normal monitor during normal use and when time to game to turn on the tv and have it export the video there?

how would i go about hooking the whole thing up?
and how do i get rid of my gtx 460 drivers to have the ati ones only

this is my settup btw

Just plug in with HDMI, im guessing that that monitor aint 1080 like the tv so you wont be able to mirror.

I think he means both your tv and monitor showing the same screen. You'll have to specify a 2 monitor system in Catalyst Controll and let the system know what should be main and secondary.

And Windows will notice the card is no longer installed and ignore the drivers reverting back to on board video.

I don't believe that's true. The drivers include registry changes which will affect your performance/stability. If you are switching from nVidia to AMD or vice versa, I would suggest reformatting and using a clean install of Windows. Also, I have seen accounts of driver sweeper actually causing problems with AMD drivers. Go figure.

As for setting up two displays, I would use the Windows settings. Right click desktop, screen resolution. From there detect and identify new monitors. At least that's the first place I would look, I don't have two monitors.

Its best if you have a program like tune up utilities or something similar that after you install your new driver for your ati card then uninstall your nvidia driver and use the tune up utilities program to clean the registry then defragment it as we, if not your performance and stability with not be the greatest as a pet rock stated, but you can do either or depends on if you have a back up or purchase a new program instead or find a free one that does clean the registry after the install and uninstall of the drivers, your call.

I would boot with onboard, reformat and install windows. Download Catalyst. I haven't heard of common issues with any of the driver updates recently, so just get the newest ones that aren't preview. And yes, Afterburner works and you'll just have Catalyst Control Center for your driver control panel.

use the onboard to remove nvidia drivers and run a driver sweeper, then when this is done, install the 6950 and plug both monitors in.

You will be able to use afterburner for this yea.

And one little thing, once you have this installed, and you aren't planning to use the tv very often, you can go into the windows screen settings and disable the tv if it's not in use, otherwise your gpu will automatically go up to 3D clocks (500/1250) when a 2nd monitor is in use. If you have only 1 monitor hooked up (if you disable the TV by clicking->disable, you can revert this in seconds), it will clock down to 250/150mhz and you'll have a much cooler card that also draws less power.
