Apple is protecting the light up apple on the back of their laptops and Imacs.
and it looks like you can expect some kind of light up edges on some apple product, or they decided it wasnt worth the effort but dont want to lose the patent.

The patent is based on the way Apple makes things light up, not on things lighting up in general.

Apple did nothing unique here. Several car manufacturers as well as many other companies already had this design, they just used a incandecent light bulb. Adding a LED does not disestablish teaching.

They will also loose this patent fight.

This is Definitely not a new technology, apple is just patenting their way of having the light reflect the computers operations.

I in no way agree with the amount of patent bs that apple is causing, but this shouldnt affect things that are not apple computers.
