Hairline Crack in Mobo - Causes ???

Thread Starter
I believe i have a hairline crack in my mobo, While i cant prove this as fact i have come to this conclusion because the only way i can get my PC to boot is by rasing one side by 1cm so it puts a slight bend in the mobo.

My worry is that it may have been caused by my Cases mobo tray and that when i buy a new mobo the same thing will happen.

is this possible ?

Cheers

Where is it? It could be the weight of your CPU cooler.

I doubt it's a crack, you would have a literally dead mobo with a crack. That sounds like the mobos contacts are touching metal and shorting.

I would check if it's getting grounded somewhere. Maybe change the stand offs.

tried it both on a cardboard box and a piece of felt neither helped.

I reason i think its a crack or a lose contact it that theres an exact point and which it boots when you lift it.

Also it is currently horizontal atm so i doubt its the weight of my cooler.

What im really asking is, is a slightly bent aluminium mobo tray likely to bend a new mobo ??

Possible: yes.
Likely: no.

you'd have to have really cranked down on the screws and have a REALLY stiff tray that the stand-offs were positioned incorrectly, and then need some type of shock to have caused the crack.

I'd try re-soldering the chips on board near the apex of the bend. I know they make a specialized heat gun that is made for doing such a thing.

If it's a new board, I'd RMA it and get a different one.
