Some people need all the slots they can get, such as myself. When I go motherboard shopping, I need:
2 x PCIe x16 Phy (x8+ electrical), double wide (GPUs)
2 x PCIe x8+ Phy (x4+ electrical), single wide (RAID)
1 x PCIe x1+ Phy, single wide (Audio)
There are only a few boards that satisfy the requirements. They are usually the ones with a top PCIe x1 slot.
It's unfortunate that the UD5 appears to block the top slot. The UD3 definitely doesn't.
