So my site got hacked today..

Hey guys, I woke up today to find that every single page on my site (entertainment news blog) had been replaced with a tag "By *hacker's handle*". I googled his handle to find that he was actually an old school hacker that liked to deface sites for fun. So at least I know it wasn't personal...
The real kicker is that my backup service had stopped working (without my knowledge) and therefore I lost all of my content on Wordpress (because I'm an idiot and didn't keep a full local backup). I could still login to my WordPress account, but I couldn't salvage anything.
I logged into my host and took the site down, so no more hacker nonsense. Now I need to work on getting the site back up by next week because I'm going to be covering a huge event and need a way to upload the content

What I wanted to ask is this: I'm going to be rebuilding my site and I wanted advice on ways to help prevent this from happening in the future without spending an excessive amount of money. I use WordPress mostly, is there a more secure blog you think I should use? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm sure a forum moderator has tips. He might have to pm you for security purposes or talk in another area. I hope the best for you. Hackers just have no excuses and no life.

Just make sure you have the latest versions of all the server software your running and no excess ports open.

Have you considered it's the host's fault? Inmotion recently got hacked and all of the sites on their servers were defaced. Wordpress is a pretty locked down piece of software, so I'd be a bit skeptic on the weakness being there rather than your host's protection.

I considered it, but couldn't find anything on the web suggesting that may have happened. I immediately contacted them though and have yet to hear back. I use iPage btw.

It's the unfortunate truth. Thanks for the support
