Okay, so if I don't want the top of the range Z68 board but still want to hit 5Ghz, what sort of board would I be looking at?

I hit 5.0 with mine easily. Been to 5.2 just to do it. Didn't dare stay there on air. I believe it has 16 + 2 power phase. I'm super happy with it and it was reasonably priced.

Yep.

There is alot to overclocking more than just turning the dials to 11. Have you... have you seen alot of OC's where people are hitting 6+ that would make you think this would be easy?

How high have you managed to get a stable OC on your chip so far? THat might be a good place to start.

Dont get so down on yourself...
5Ghz on the new sandy bridge platform isnt that hard.
Plus, you have a H100.
Maybe Im just lucky with my chip, but I have a 2500k and I am sitting comfortably at 4.5Ghz around 1.312-1.320. Max temps are high 60's low 70's. I think it was around 71-72 average.

Assuming the H100 is better than my H70, you should be fine to reach 5gbz. Plus it seems like your willing to spend some more money to get there so im sure youll get there...

Not if you only want to OC to 4GHz.

If you dont want to pay top dollar the Asus gene Z will get you there. It may not have all the niceties of its bigger brother (or as many slots) but it can handle 5ghz+ if your chip can. Got mine for 160 and cost less than half of what I normally pay for boards *no regrets*

Heck half the people in the M4GZ thread are doing 1 or 2 click OC to 4.6 (not that I would recommend that as its pushing unnecessary volts but still...)
