I didn't mean to step on your toes or offend you in any way when I posted my response. I agree that an external USB enclosure makes the most sense but without knowing the whole story, I just thought I'd offer a solution to his question.
I myself am using an internal DVD burner as an external. It is much less bulky than an externally enclosed DVD drive and I have it hidden under my desk with double sided tape. Luckily for me, I already had a power supply (I use it to bleed my loop and run fans outside of my case) and only needed to buy the cable.
I can spot an open box 5.25" sata enclosure on Newegg for $18 shipped
, but usually they're ~$30. Then there's eBay listings for a 12v 5v molex PSU that come with a molex to sata converter for $8 shipped, and an eSata to Sata cable is about $5-6.Edited by skkhai - 10/7/11 at 7:50pm
