Guess you should stop playing 98% of games on the PC then.

What's your point? He has essentially abandoned his roots and sold out to consoles.

Issues with hardware/drivers are his responsibility. He should have worked closely with both AMD and Nvidia to ensure the game would launch with proper drivers. That's not really the case when it launch was it?

Lol what? Most games on the PC are properly invested. I'm talking about games that are poor ports with serious issues at launch, aka RAGE, Dead Island, and all of Ubisofts games.

To even say 98% of pc games just shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

Um, no. He's saying he wants to spend more time on PC, but can't because of profits. It's not HIS decision alone, and you can't have a company drop in profit that significantly because he wants to be selfish and develop for the platform he sees as superior.

You have to cater to your main audience, which is consoles. That is what he saying, he did not 'abandon' you.

“We were quite happy with the performance improvements that we had made on AMD hardware in the months before launch,†he said. We had made significant internal changes to cater to what AMD engineers said would allow the highest performance with their driver and hardware architectures, and we went back and forth with custom extensions and driver versions.â€

“We knew that all older AMD drivers, and some Nvidia drivers would have problems with the game, but we were running well in-house on all of our test systems. When launch day came around and the wrong driver got released, half of our PC customers got a product that basically didn’t work. The fact that the working driver has incompatibilities with other titles doesn’t help either.â€
sounds like they did their job, it was nvidia/amd who dropped the ball on this.

as for the game, it plays fine on my system, i'm using the 280 whql drivers that were released back in like august.

You would all have done the same thing if you were in his shoes.

Lets see, you can

A) Keep ~10% of the gaming community happy by dedicating the game to PC

or

B) Keep 90% of the gaming community happy, and make like 10 times as much money doing it

PC gamers expect to be treated all high and mighty because they spend so much money on their computers and are too elitest. The developers USUALLY dont make squat off us. They are supplying the demand, and 90% of the demand is from consoles.

I am somewhat guilty of expecting more from developers, but I still know where PC gaming stands in the overall gaming community. Right at the end of the line. But we can take what were givin, and make it better ourselfs, thats why I like PC gaming more then console.

Be rewarded what are you talking about?

I don't even think witcher 2 even sold 2 million despite being a good game, bethesda says 90% of their market is on consoles, and indie devs really? you really want to compare indie game figures to what consoles pull in?

People over exaggerate pc gaming revenue, the simple fact is consoles make more money, so why bother with making pc the mainplatform. BTW I love PC gaming but im being a realist here.

No surprise here. Despite it's mixed base the game is awesome and I think they did a good job on it. It's genuinely FUN to play and a damn good challenge. I have nothing against it being for all 3 systems or as many as they want to port it to for that matter as long as it is fun! That's what gaming is about IMHO, not being part of some PC exclusive club that I brag about to my friends that only have ps3's or xbox's. More power to all gamers

He has also defended the PC. If you watch his interview at PAX 11' he blatantly states that PC's are the superior platform but if they developed for PC alone, they would be out of business. He also stated that it was a mistake developing for the consoles in certain ways when they started Rage because of the consoles lack of hardware resources.

It's not Carmack's decision alone, i.d. is a company. It's not i.d.'s fault alone, it's the industries for being stupid enough to buy 3 360's that red ring.
