Now that developers can develop the game they wanted, and get it to 10x as many customers by shipping it on consoles it means that PC development is secondary. PC gamers over the last 5 years have had trouble coming to terms with this, they used to get the best titles, and the consoles sometimes never saw those titles come to them. Now about 90% of the major developers are targeting consoles as the lead platforms. The PC-focused games that I see remaining for now are MMOs and RTS games, those are not nearly as easy to pull of on a console given the limitations of the networking and the controls, but if the next-gen consoles come with keyboard and mouse, PC games could lose out even more.
Lot of games are simple mindless games.
fun for a moment and spend some time with.
PC gaming is though due to piracy where simple games basically is downloaded and played and last what 12 hours?
I cant understand why developers concern themselves with simple games to the PC platform, as we now see, BF3 with a new engine has likely the biggest hype for a game since the days of doom and tetris.
I play MMO and fps shooters and there I played bf2, bc2 and now moving onto BF3. Buying a simple PC game as "rage" is out of the question for me.
Making a good PC game has not much to do with the engine or the past history of the developer, it has to do with innovation and identifying the customer needs. PC gamers tends to be more older and can afford new hardware if needed.
Console gaming get a lot of attention due to them playing those buy a lot of mindless games and are easier for a developer to push for since they get more money even if their game sucks. For a developer or a shareholder, its common sense to develop for console first and primary.
But making a game for PC that is hot and hyped as BF3, in spite of being a clone of mw3, allows the notice its doable and possible to make a game that works for PC that sells but also require some innovation not just in graphics but also in game play. BF3 dosnt play the same as previous BF games, but mw3 will do. If EA make the mistake to do more of the MW series they do a huge mistake.
Lot of games are made to make money first and foremost, not to enjoy you or me but to make money. and if the customer likes 12 hour gaming, and then off to the next title, no wonder more such games are produced and then no wonder they are copied and pirated. I buy my games, but I dont play a lot of them either, I play some MMO and some bf3, that sums my gaming up.
console gaming never been interesting for me, tried it but simply sucks.
The obvious is that rage is a bad game on the PC, we don't buy games that dosnt add a lot of things for us that we call fun which is subjectively for each and one of us, but it also sends a message, make games fun and innovative as many indie developers tends to do.
