i5 2500k vs i7 920?

Thread Starter
All in the title, I was gonna see if I should just take my current i7 920 out of this computer and put it in my new build and just attach a cpu cooler, or should I just get a new i5 2500k. I want to overclock my CPU to about 4.5GHz or higher if stability allows it

I went from a i7 930 to this and there is no difference...only sata 3 and 4 less threads. A i7 930 @4.2GHz = a i5 2500k @4.8GHz

2500K smokes a 920 in every way possible.

The 2500k is better in gaming but is not worth a switch for your 920.

Your definition of "smokes" is pretty loose then I take it.

What do most people even OC their 920s too? I never OC'd this yet because I still dont have a CPU Cooler, but I have one in my new build

i5 2500k is a new socket and platform (1155); the 1366 i7 920 is completely different. You can't swap cpus, or am I missing the question in your post confused.gif

No z68 and p67 are 1155 socket and your I7 920 is 1366 socket.... If you already bought the new mobo you need a new processor or you need to return it and spend the money on a different part of your new build. Sorry.
