Digital Signature debacle...

Thread Starter
SO my friend got windows 7 64 bit pro...i love windows 7 but we ran into one small issue...this digital signature garbage is not letting any downloads go through, i tried disabling it through the command prompt as suggested by many sites, i disabled all firewalls and lowered internet security options but NOTHING WORKS

i never ran into this issues on my pc with 7 64 bit ultimate, so what gives? is this how windows 7 pro is?

how could microsoft think this "security measure" was a good idea

anyone have some suggestions?

They're trying to protect the operating system from people who are not computer friendly (if you know what I mean).

I think that the Program Compatibility Assistant needs to be set to Disabled in Services.msc. A reboot is recommended, but not required. You can try to Stop the service first.

If that doesn't work, then I don't know what else to try.

Ultimate is a true waste of money unless you absolutely need the few extra features that it has over Pro and Home Premium.

Here are 3 comparison charts. I think you will find that Home Premium is more than enough (unlike Vista Home Premium):

I think that this issue you are having is not really an issue but just a normal part of Windows. It will happen in Ultimate in the same way. This is just something we all deal with.

I apologize for not being clearer like this in my other reply, but I had been awake for about 27 hours.

So when you tried to install Firefox, you got a message that said something about not having a digital signature?

If so, then this problem will not be solved by getting a different edition. I'm using Home Premium and I never have problems like this. I can do pretty much whatever I want without any irritating messages popping up. So I don't know what to tell you.

does the error message look like any of these?

maybe you can provide us with some of the links you dug up during your research, so we may better understand the "debacle" going on, cause afaik, the only thing that windows 7 requires to be signed, are their drivers, which you can get around easily enough.
