[GON] Always-On DRM Confirmed for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - UPDATED! - Page 11

Looks like you live in a sucky part of Canada. Wont affect me. The only time in the last 2 years that I lost the network was when I drove a garden spade through the line in my yard. I really don't expect a 5g per day download playing STALKER. I probably download more automatic steam and steam game updates than I would ever require with STALKER.

As for prices and caps: I may not like them, but until something changes, I guess I have to live with them.

Like the dude that I work with that got wallopped with a $68 "overage" fee along with the cease and dissist letter just because he watched some stuff on NetFlix...

Devs/publishers make DRM to prevent their product from being pirated, and by continuing to crack their DRM methods you're just making things worse for the PC community.

If a game company comes out with a DRM that you really don't like then just DON'T BUY THE GAME. Resorting to piracy is the most idiotic thing you could do.
What's going on.

Then I'll pirate it, even though I love GSC. This DRM is cancer and only encourages piracy.

They're just going to lose money and their consumers in the end. The game will be cracked. It's so easy to pirate games, a cave man can do it. Seriously, why are companies even thinking about implementing this?

Given that the OP stated that it is not just DRM, but that:

Quote:
This pre-requisite will apparently go beyond mere verification – most of the game content will be hosted on the games server, and will be streamed out to end users as they play.
You should have a lot of fun playing without content.

After it hits the $10-$15 price, they'll most likely remove the DRM anyway.
Works for me. I got 2 of the 3 games already on steam (10 bucks for both sale) and I've just started playing the first one so I'm in no particular rush if I ever even get to this new iteration.

Also DRM is really only a worthy gamble if it gets rid of the most damaging piracy, the 0-day variety when it impacts legit sales the most. Too bad it fails most of the time at this as well.

Ubisoft pulled the SAME thing with Assassin's Creed and it had a workaround within the week. Don't these guys ever learn?

Guys don't be upset. All collected news items indicate that Stalker 2.0 is going to be a huge departure from what made the original stalker so great. They're going to dumb it down for a future or simulations console release and modding (which is what saved GSC's games from being discarded as worthless, buggy, unfinished, failures) will cease to exist.

DRM will forever get hacked, will forever make it harder for the costumers who buy the product...But at least this is smart than the average DRM.
