It's almost always the publisher's fault. Anything from forcing DRM schemes to ridiculous deadlines. People that have never written 2 lines of code in their life come on here and post "lazy devs" or "stupid devs" when nothing could possibly be further from the truth.

Being an aspiring indie dev myself I have noticed that most people who don't understand the industry just blame the developers.

Most people don't understand that what basically happens is that the developer comes up with an idea, they go to a publisher and pitch the idea with a small game build, maybe some concept art and a basic design documment. Then the publisher either says "yes" or "no". Essentially, in a nutshell, that's what happens.

Most people just don't seem to understand that and jump down the devs throats and blame them. Its like when people blame BioWare for their product quality dropping and catering for the lowest common denominator these days. Its not their fault, they were bought out by EA, they basically just do what EA tells them to. They are a puppet of the shareholders and EA execs basically.
