Spinning hard drive?

Thread Starter
I just got a USB 3.0 external drive enclosure and popped a samsung spinpoint 500G drive that I wasnt using into it. Seems to work great except for one thing.

When the machine first boots, the drive seems fine. Active, then inactive.

But then after a while, the drive just spins at 100%. My whole desk is vibrating from the thing, and the hdd usage light is solid.

But there is -nothing- going on or off this disk. No I/O of any kind is going on that I can see, which I checked from task manager resource monitor.

What might be going on? Anyone have any ideas whats going on with this thing?

Just a wild guess, but maybe drive indexing is rearranging files on it?
