Upgrading for BF3

Thread Starter
I want to be able to run BF3 maxes at 1920x1200, so I'm obviously going to be forced to upgrade.

I'm looking for a plan of action. I plan on upgrading in the next few months around the holidays.

My plan of action right now is to wait until Bulldozer releases this month and see how it compares to SB. If it beats it,

I will go that route. On to the GPU, I've heard things about an ATI 7xxx series coming out later this year.

If that can easily take on some 580's I'll probably go that route. Do you guys have any advice on my future upgrade plan?

Anyone recommending a course of action now other than "wait & see" is patently foolish.

Really there is no sense in worrying about it right now if you think you are going to be waiting till Dec anyways. Sounds like you really know what you want already.

Untill proven as a SB killer BD is still a Big ??? If the Benches com in at or just above SB levels id say go for the intel cuz there are bound to be price drops for them to stay competitive. Then yu can always fo to SB-e in the future.

Your GPU, well there are 2 lines of though t on that one. Wait for 7xxx and jump in wallet first. Or wait till everyone starts selling and grab up a pair of Ref 6950s, Unlock to 6970s and Crossfire. Will probably still dominate a single 7xxx.

Well, you've pretty much answered your own question

If you're able to hold off for a while, then it would definitely be in your favor to see how those newer parts stack up against the current leading hardware. I'd say you have a solid plan right there.

If you absolutely cannot wait any longer, then I would suggest a 2500K or 2600K depending on your needs, and either a GTX 580, or 2x GTX 570's/HD 6970

I made my rig prior to playing the games I wanted. Next time... I will wait for the game I know I will play for at least a year, and build a rig around it.

It's the most logical thing to do, and that's waiting it out.
