Sub $800 Gaming Build

Thread Starter

Hello everyone! First time poster here. Was wondering if you guys could check my build and give me some feedback. I definitely want the i5 2500K. Everything else can be interchangeable, based on your expertise. I am looking to play BF3, Skyrim, and Star Wars The Old Republic. Keep in mind I already have an SSD and a hard drive, so I will be purchasing the following:

CPU: Intel i5 2500K - $189.99 - NCIX
MB: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 - $124.99 - Newegg
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) - $29.99 - Newegg
GPU:

PSU: Mushkin Enhanced Volta MKNPSVT650 ATX 12V 20/24PIN Power Supply - $29.99 - NCIX
Optical:
Case:
Total w/ tax and shipping = $738.12

I tried to compile this from various builds around the Intel and AMD forums. As always, lower price and better performance builds are appreciated, but I'm trying to keep my budget around $750 - $800.

i wouldn't trust that psu, dont skimp on it, you will regret it later and it's sure to be one of the parts you will def use in future upgrades.

you could replace that dvd-rom with one for $10 from goodwill and put the rest towards a better psu.

Hmm okay. Thanks for the suggestion. How does everything else look? Any different GPU's I could go with for lesser price or more performance?

That is a poor Powersupply, If I were you I would get at least this

Also, since RAM is cheap then get one 8GB kit.

Was going to go stock at first, and get an aftermarket one later on

Hey guys, so I decided to go with mATX instead as my room is tiny and I wanted semi-portability. I changed up my build a bit and added the better PSU and double the RAM. What do you think of this build?

CPU: Intel i5 2500K - $189.99 - NCIX
MB:

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)- $51.99 - Newegg
GPU:
PSU:
Optical:
Case: NZXT Vulcan - $69.99 -10% - Newegg

Total w/ tax and shipping = $829.66 - $10 rebate = $819.66

I will be doing minor OCing to both the CPU and GPU. Any suggestions on aftermarket cooling for the CPU? Lets say $100 ish or lower?
