Mine showed no change at all when flipping the BIOS switch, so no default 6970 BIOS for me frown.gif

What's the best method for doing it manually?
There seem to be several different ways of doing it. headscratch.gif

But remember its not a 100% chance of unlocking.

Pulled the trigger on my first build yesterday and I'm getting the same card.

Do you know if the second BIOS you had was a normal 6970 BIOS (with the different RAM timings) or if it was a BIOS that simply unlocks the other shaders? I heard that using the 6970 one can damage the RAM because of the different timings. I want to overclock mine to 6970 performance levels with or without the shaders (depending on weather it's a BIOS with different RAM timings).

Thanks for any reply and don't worry if you don't know.

Aha i honestly don't know frown.gif
Is there a way to check it, but i guess it was just with unlocked shaders.

No, what I meant was, if you flip the BIOS switch to its default position you will see GPU-Z shows Cayman. The card has 2 BIOS's Cayman and Antilles. Your card was probably laser cut hence no shader to unlock.

If your card came with a BIOS switch you should have 2 BIOS as explained above. If it did unlock to Antilles (6970) it should probably share the RAM timings of a 6970. Even if it wasn't unlocakable (laser cut), it's pretty safe to assume that using second BIOS will not do any harm.

For a 6950 came without BIOS switch and was not flash locked, it's advisable only to unlock the shader using a 6950 BIOS. Flashing with a 6970 might not compatible to the memory chip on the 6950.
