Use onboard sound along with SoundBlaster?

Hi all!

I recently installed a Creative SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty.
However, it doesn't support the front panel sound connector of my case.
Therefore, I'm currently unable to use headphones on my computer.

Is it possible to re-enable my onboard sound (Realtek ALC889a) and configure my computer in such a way that the onboard card handles my headphones as soon as I plug them in, and the SB handles my speakers as long as there is no headphone plugged in?
Specs are in signature.

I know that there could already be threads like this one, but for some reason the search function only loads a blank page today, so my apologies if a similar thread already exists.

Thanks in advance!

Really? There are no pins on the board to hook your front panel up with? My last Creative card had them, but that was years ago.

Well, there are connectors on it for a special Creative bay drive (which i don't have and don't want to have. I just want to use the jacks built into my case).

However, no AC97/HD audio connector to be seen:(.

The manual I found on the internet made it seem like the 10-pin connector was part of the larger one. In fact, it stated that the 10-pin connector was only available on a different model.

I'll try and see if it works

Thanks a lot!

Edit: Nope, it didn't

Sorry for bumping, but does anyone know how to connect my sound card to my front panel or how to make dual sound cards work?

I just found out that it's indeed impossible to connect the sound card to the front panel, so the only solution left is to try and make my onboard work together with the SB.

Anyone got a suggestion?

I think you're just going to have to switch it in the sound controls every time. Or maybe someone else has had this problem and written code with a global hokey that switches outputs. May be worth a quick google search.

Just plug your cans into the sound card directly, problem solved.
