If you look at some of the early leaks and statements from AMD, they were saying things like 50% more performance for 33% more cores. And now... it seems like they will have a hard time equaling the performance of a theoretical Phenom II x8 (which in itself is unacceptable because it implies little to no IPC increase). Clearly, AMD ran into some major problems.

Like you said, a new uarch and a die shrink is very risky and that AMD was bound to have problems. Thus I had no issues defending the early BD performance leaks since AMD still had time to fix issues and optimize performance. But now it is confirmed that we are 1 week from launch...... people who are still defending these results thinking AMD has some magic BIOS or microcode they plan on releasing at launch are just silly. Come on, the writing is on the wall.

My guess is AMD is just going to release whatever they have (even if it is slower than PH II), make as much money as they can, and move to Piledriver (fixed BD) as quickly as possible. That would explain why Trinity was originally using BD cores but now will use PD cores AND that fact that 8 Piledriver cores will be released on AM3+ (Vishera) and NOT FM2 (Komodo).

Seems like AMD is trying to fix new uarch and get the manufacturing up to snuff before moving on -- hence the quick move to piledriver.
Hopefully, PD will rock so I can switch but to my preferred company, AMD.
and now the new preview from Lab501 paints the same picture it seems

But with our short passing test suite, we had the most brutal awakening since test components and write reviews, pure and simple, it is difficult to find a scenario where the bulldozer is a competitive solution.

If the results are like this across the board of reviews. I'm going back intel and never looking back. I mean especially in gaming where I care about most I need a CPU that can push these bad boys. BD doesn't seem like it has the "cajones" to do that.

I did not realize lab501 was a Romanian site. Why are all these reviewers " breaking NDA " ??

Probably because AMD can't really do anything to them if they do break NDA? I've seen Asian and European tech sites/forums break NDA many times before. AMD/Intel/NVidia can't really do anything about it if they do.

I want it to perform well as Intel seriously needs some competition.
Being that AGESA was recently updated to version 1.1.0.0 3 days ago on all of the newly released BIOS (F5A, F6D, & F6E for the UD3, 5 & 7's respectively) for Giga's 990FX boards (and all other manufacturers 990 boards iirc), this isn't unexpected. It's a plausible scenario.

We'll see when it's released, one way or the other. But, I can tell you this for sure. My 1090 more than doubles the flop/s that this "benchmark" result shows in linpack. Somehow, I find myself doubting that Zambezi could be worse. But, we'll see.

*and I score 1.12 points higher in Cinebench*

I heard that the CPU was actually available for retail purchase in a few different countries (cannot confirm this). Would it still technically be under NDA if it's already out for retail?

it would make sense that Intel is planting these "leaks" to capitalize on AMD delaying their product.

It wouldn't cost them much to create some fake screenshots, and they have enough money to pay off any judge/corporation that found out.

Think of all the people that have already jumped ship to SB because of all these "leaks". Major gain for intel there.

Look, I have no issue with fanboyism or being a fanboy for that matter, but conspiracy theories are a whole different ballpark. Let's at least try to be rational about this.

Edit: At least somewhat rational...
