Help overclocking Q9400 from 2.66GHz

Hello everyone, I'm new here, and I need help OCing my ''old'' cpu. I'll provide all the info you need, I'll start with this:

My CPU is Q9400 2.66GHz (quad core) Intel.
I have 4GB DDR3 Corsair RAM (only reads 3.3GB because i have 32bit OS).
My mobo is ASUS P5QL Pro.
My PSU is Spire Jewel 650W (arround 100$ when I bought it back then), so its a good one.
I'm using the cooler that came with the CPU (intel), i did not need to change it since i never OCed my CPU. I heard that CPUs last for like 12 years but OCing the cpu will make the cpu last for 50% less - arround 6-7 years. Is this true?

Now, you have to be aware that I dont have any experience with OCing, I have no idea how does it work, i have no idea how to do it. Thats why i registered here, hope somebody will help me. Thanks!

Please add your system details in your Signature so we could help you better.
You won't have to re-type them over and over again in each post.

Following what Mobo, memory and CPU cooling solution you have, you can expect more or less headroom for ocing.

Do you have an aftermarket cooler ? Stock cooler ?

What do you mean by system details? I've already listed my mobo, memory and cpu cooling in my first post above.

To have specs in all messages you are posting. Otherwise we'll have to go back in the first message you've posted to see your specs while we could have them in each message.
