GTX 580 worth it?

I am building a new PC and was going to get a GTX 580, but some of my friends told me it isn't worth it and I should get a GTX 570 instead. Thoughts?

This is going to be my build.

Depends on price, just like anything. I picked mine up for $340, so in my opinion very worth it. If it were $500, I would have passed on it.

if you want something cheaper and you dont plan on going insane down the road, grab dual 6870s should save you at least 100 over buying a gtx 580 and performs the same or in some games even better then a single gtx 580, not a ati nor nvidia fanboy, i just got my 580 and am honestly not impressed by shelling out that much money for something that really isnt much faster then a cheaper CF setup...

The GTX 570 is a great card and not too far behind a 580. While a 580 is the single best GPU out there, if you can SLi the 570 down the road it would be good for quite a while. The 570 will perform excellent for most games and at least Med-High for newer games. If you have the money, go for the 580. But if you got the 570 that money could go for a SSD for OS and programs.

Oh, and welcome to OCN.

Yes, these suckers are powerful. If you are no going to water cool, get something with a non-reference/turbine cooler

Swap the WD Black for a Samsung Spinpoint F3 as it's faster and much cheaper...

And also, no. GTX 580 is not worth the price at all. It's not that much faster than a GTX 570 in all honesty and you could pick one of those up brand new for around $300 if you try. But that's Australian prices, so it could be much cheaper over there.

All I know is, you could get nearly two GTX 570s for the price of that GTX 580. The GTX 580 is the fastest single GPU out, so it's not got very good value, whilst a GTX 560 Ti or a GTX 570 are about the best value cards you can get right now.

i suggest u to go for two 6950 (pick unlockable version and make them 2 6970) totally beats a 580, and a solid 580 is around 500-600USD, basically 6970 CF is at least 50%-70% faster than 1 gtx580 and is very comparable with 580sli and beats a 590 and even a 6990. So the best bang for the buck is to get 2 unlokable versions of 6950.!!

Get the gtx570 because u can get almost the stock performance of the gtx 580 when overclocked and for less money.

I got a Galaxy for cheap... you can find them for 415ish on newegg brand new

Worth it for sure

@ z01o... because I hate when people say that...
You could get a 580 and OC it and the 570 will never touch it... if you are looking for a budget card the 570 is worth it but don't compare like that, just a lol compare

Thanks for all the quick replies. Will a 570 be able to run Battlefield 3, Skyrim and Rage on ultra?
