Is my 465gtx to far behind?

Thread Starter
Quick little question. Im working on a new 1155 build and i planned on using my current 465gtx, grabbing another one and going SLI on the new build. The build wont be done until about december. Do you guys think i should just wait until my builds almost done then look at new GPU's? or will the 2 465's give me what i need? Just saying because rite now my 465 is holding its own on anything i play.

I wouldn't keep a GTX 465 as even a GTX 460 is actually faster and uses less power / creates less heat.

If anything, I would try and get 2x GTX 460 instead at minimum, or if possible a single GTX 560Ti.

Your GTX 465 will play a lot of games still for sure, but it's not a good idea to keep that card as it's getting harder to sell as it never really did have a realistic price range.

If you can get another unlocking 465 there is no reason to switch to either a 460 or 560 ti SLI setup unless the heat/noise/power draw is bugging you both would be downgrades.

i dont understand why people keep sayin the 465 os slower than a 460. the 465 has more processor cores and even at a slightly lower clock should still be the same or faster. and it is the same just OC it. if a 470 is hands down faster than a 460 and a 465 is the same just with a different bios than a 465 should be slightly faster. im just using my logic and it could be wrong but thats how i see it.

to the OP- i just bought 2 465s and will get them monday. ill let ya know how it turns out.

But the 465 is the GF100 chip, thats the premium Fermi chip, are you sure its slower than the budget Fermi chip (GF104). The 465 must be faster clock - for - clock than the 460 so the 465 must not clock that high then?

A GTX 465 is not slower than a GTX 460 1GB. They're about the same. If you have no issues with the 30W or so more power it uses (big deal), find a recertified one for $100 and SLI them in your new rig.

460's are still quality cards, stick with it. You could probably stand to stay at a single 465 until the newer cards come out (7000/600 series).

There is no point to upgrading to a "newer" card right now when you own a decent card. Might as well wait it out.
