Towel Fixed Xenon 360 Heatsink Swap.

Thread Starter
Right, pretty simple; My brother has given me a Towel Fixed () Xenon mobo 360, now I've been through a few free RROD'd 360's that I've fixed, but they've died, so the plus of this is that I have both the extended GPU heatsink from the Zephyr and a Falcon CPU heatsink, I intend to put the better heatsinks on the board and am wondering if I should keep the original X-clamps on the board or install my bolt-thru bolts while I'm at it. In the past I've noticed that the bolt-thru can be really touchy if not installed perfect, and I'm looking for some input on my situation.

I was thinking I'd keep the stock X-clamps on, with the new heatsinks, hit the board with a heat gun, then let it cool and put the bolts on it.

Hit me with any constructive thoughts or suggestions, and as always; thanks in advance.

The reason all those xboxs died is that the towel fix is bad for the system. think about it your going to remelt the solder by getting the whole system hot. also using a heat gun is just as bad your going to overheat the CPU and GPU trying to put better cooler on it. just use the stock x clamps they already provide plenty of pressure to hold down the sink.

If it's already RRoD'd you need to reheat the cold joints otherwise it won't work ever. The issue is after that you need to get it cooled properly.
