Would you put a GTX 580 in this system I'm building?

Thread Starter

I purchased a computer from LuComputers a few years back and had a great experience. I don't have the know-how to build on my own, so I am looking here again.

This is the system I'm currently configuring:
Configured PC

And I want to buy this card to put in there (not offered on Lu):

Total Price: $2388 (my budget is $2,500.00 max)

Questions:
1. Does this PC configuration look good?
2. Should I go full tower instead of this mid?
3. Is this the best nVidia 580 card at the moment for graphics/gaming on a 27" monitor?
4. Considering this is a good setup, I should be able to remove the card in the configured PC and replace with the one I linked on Amazon right?

I would really appreciate your help. It's been a LOOONG time since I've kept up with hardware.

Thanks all,
Dan P.

That system is insanely overpriced. I'd recommend that you take a look at digital storm or ibuypower.

1-Forget the H50 get an Noctua NH14, performs better.
2-Only for watercooling.
3-Gainward Phantom gtx 580 3gb
4- Yes its that simple.

The price is too high, look for other stores or you could build it youre self and save alot of money.

oh wow, I thought it was a pretty decent deal for the i7, 16GB ram, and throwing the gtx 580 in there...maybe I'll post in a better spot for some assistance on the build then.

shows how much I know :-)

That's a bad setup for the money. There is no point in getting a i7 960 when you can get a faster and cheaper 2600k system instead. The gtx 580 is good for any single monitor setup.
A 1200W PSU is overkill for anything less then a triple SLI system.

This PC would be a waste of money at this point. They don't even MAKE the i7 960 any more. 1366 will be dead in 2012. You could save a load of money doing something like http://www.lucomputers.com/site/view...de=62922505&14 and have a faster system. I just picked the SSD and stuff arbitrarily since I don't know what you want but it would be a much better rig and have the possibility to upgrade to ivy bridge etc down the line, not to mention native SATA III support and other things. 1366 isn't bad but you better be building a six-core rig to compete with SB.

As far as a 27" is it a 1440p or 1080p?

Really, a 8400GS lol. Please build your own. Also, Unless you are SLIing ad using 3 monitors 3GB is too much. 2GB/2.5GB is just as good.

Build your own computer, its very easy and there are tutorial on the internet, plus you can always post here if you have a problem. I built my sig rig last year without any knowledge...
